I recently went back home for Mother’s Day. My mom was cleaning out her closet, which is something she hasn’t done in a long time. We both have a slight shopping problem and accumulate tons of clothes. I like to simultaneously thank her for my fashion sense and blame her for my retail therapy addiction.
As we were cleaning, we found lots of hidden gems buried in the back of her closet. Lately, I’ve been really feeling inspired by 80s/90s fashion. So, I took a lot of her long-forgotten clothes—probably a lot more than I needed.
I put together some outfits mixing her clothes (since she hasn’t worn them since the 90s and early 2000s) with a few of my more modern updated pieces.
I took two pairs of long shorts from her. These are super high waisted (which I LOVEEE) and super long.
Here is a video look book if you don't want to read and are a more visual person.
High Neck Cream Sweater & Faux Leather Skirt
I usually hate things with a high neckline/turtleneck. But, this shirt is an exception. It’s comfy and so soft. Sure, it’s probably a little too hot to wear this outfit in the GA heat now; but come fall and I’ll be living in this outfit. I tucked it in halfway; put on some cute lace boots; and felt like a modern day Rachel from Friends.
Cream Linen Shorts & Tie Front Denim Shirt
The light wash denim shirt makes the outfit feel really light and airy. I feel like I should be sitting poolside in some resort or out playing tennis. It really gave me PTA going, car pooling, wine drinking, I’m too busy living my best life, mom vibes.
Green Khaki Long Shorts with a Black Crop Top.
I took my mom’s long shorts which fit really well. I rolled up the hem and stuck with a neutral black crop top. Pairing these two pieces with some heels has become my favorite outfit. It gives me Kim Possible/Jumanji vibes for some reason.
Let me know if you’re just as guilty as I am when it comes to raiding your mom’s closet! Send me a pic of the cool pieces you never knew your mom had! Also would you guys like to see my mom style my outfits for a few days?
